A Little Eye Opener

Good evening everyone!
WOW.  It has been a hot minute since I wrote on here!  Between my travels to Israel (which I will be sure to write about in a future post-stay tuned) and catching some sort of flu the week I got home, I had a difficult time getting around to the computer to write.  But praise the Lord I'm back on track!

Sooo, I'm going to be real with you guys.  I had that spiritual high my entire time spent in Israel.  I had my nose dug into the Word everyday and I just felt God revealing so much to me.  However, the second day I got back, I felt this heavy weight on my shoulders.  I felt a lack of intimacy with our Lord.  The conviction was real, guys.

I don't find it necessary to type the entire ordeal on here, but what I will say is that although beating around the bush may seem harmless, it is still not okay.  Not to your loved ones, to yourself, and definitely not in the eyes of our God.

God really opened my eyes this week.  He showed me that beating around the bush to avoid a potential hardship or conflict is wrong.  In essence, it is as bad as a lie.  In fact, it may as well be a lie.  And we all know a lie is a lie.  Beating around the bush, "white lies", etc.

Lying or "beating around the bush" may feel okay in the moment because it seems easier as opposed to being upfront and dealing with any form of negativity coming back at you.  But an honest heart is just such an honorable trait to have.

Listen, I understand telling the truth can be hard sometimes; given certain situation you may be faced with.  However, it is in those uncomfortable times where we can really demonstrate our faith in our Lord and continue to lean on Him and trust that He will get us through that tough time!

"The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy" Proverbs 12:22 [NIV]

Notice how this Proverb states how lying is pretty much a disgrace in God's eyes.  I mean... after all it is a sin.  But it goes on to say how the Lord delights in His people who are trustworthy; people who are honest!  He loves honesty and He loves a pure heart.  That is something to keep in mind next time you are faced with a questionable situation.
Do you want to take the easy road?  Or do you trust in our Lord Jesus Christ to hold our hands and walk down the narrow road despite the hardships that may come along? (cough- check out Matthew chapter 7-cough)

God never said we won't be faced with uncomfortable situations.  In fact, He pretty much promised they will be there.  It's inevitable.  It's scary if we don't have Jesus.  We are weaklings without him.  But with Him, we can get through it through His daily gift of His heavenly grace!  His grace IS enough!
In 2 Corinthians chapter 12, Paul is talking to the Corinthians about what God said to Him through this vision.  God's words; "MY grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
I love this... and I will explain why momentarily.

A Missed Opportunity

If you lie, it is only a matter of time before the truth comes out.  If you get caught in the midst of a lie before you gained the courage to speak the truth, then that became a huge missed opportunity.  As a Christian, honesty along with many other things are important because we are to be a reflection of who Christ is to those who may not know Him yet.  When you are caught in a lie, you are taking a big step back with that.
Beating around the bush here and there may seem harmless and even make our lives feel a bit simpler, but it isn't honoring God the way we need to honor God.  The devil makes things like this appear to do no harm, but believe me when I say it will come right back around and it will hurt.

Lying is a weakness.  I think we all can agree on that.  But that is good!  God's grace is made perfect THROUGH our weaknesses!  His strength becomes ours when we yield to Him in the midst of our weaknesses!  He said it!  The best part about this is this can appeal to any struggle you may be facing.

I love how Paul is an awesome example as he explains how he is comfortable in his weakness.

"...therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9  [NIV]

God opened my eyes a lot more this week.  He showed me that instead of pretending to be strong in a battle, that I should stop, lean on Him, and be still.  To be comfortable in my weakness because that is when His strength and glory will shine through me.  Let's be real, I make mistakes all the time, and I'm sure you do too...but God is amazing and can take any mess and make it into a work of divine art!!  Just wait and see!

To the Person Having a Hard Time Moving Forward

Just like what the title states; that was me for the longest time.  I messed up countless times.  Repeatedly.  Over and over and over.  Heck, I still mess up like it is my job.  Being that person who seemed to make mistakes left and right, I found it very difficult to move forward with my life.  I had a difficult time trying to forgive myself.  Yeah, yeah I know the "make mistakes, learn from them, build your character" saying.  But to be frank, that didn't minister to me that well.  I mean, I suppose it did but that was only temporary.  Every time I tried to move forward, something would happen that reminded me of the past and I felt that fresh sense of shame as if it happened that day.  Every time I felt like I took a step forward, I was really taking a huge step back.  For my entire life, I have been going back and forth with no real sense of direction.          I thank God for Jesus.  Because of Jesus, no person on this earth can say anything to me to hinder

More than a performance

I think we can all agree that we live in a society that is primarily based around performance. I'm not going to sit here and bash on our performances with day to day tasks.  In fact, I think our performance with getting a job done is very important; in proper context.  Nevertheless, it can get pretty overwhelming.  Personally, I do NOT perform well under pressure.  In fact, the more I focus on trying to get a job done correctly, the more I will rush, the more anxious I will feel, and the more likely I am to mess up. The solution?  Don't focus so hard on performing the task quickly and carelessly.  Just take it one step at a time and focus on getting it done well. This is very straight forward: to a T.  But how do we apply this logic with our walks with Christ?  What about the way we go about spreading the gospel to our coworker or the way we try to show Jesus to a friend who may not know Him yet? I don't know about you, but as a Christian, I used to struggle immens

Quarantine Thoughts: An Opportunity for Compassion

In as little as a few weeks, the entire world fell ill. ~ The person compulsively posting divided opinions on Facebook. The person fed up with Facebook strife. The teenagers walking down the street in a group greater than ten. The man approaching them, infuriated, holding a knife.  The single mom worried about making ends meet. The single mom's child oblivious to her mother's sense of defeat. The grocery store clerk wishing they didn't have to go into work today. The clothing store retail worker wishing they had work and guaranteed pay.  Those health care providers risking their lives to save your loved ones. Someone you love that was with you one minute, is now gone. I think all of us are confused, bored, maybe nervous for the unknown.  Humanity thrives on the idea of having power and control over our own lives.  For the first time for many of us, this virus introduced the depth of our human-vulnerability.  You hear conspiracy theorists conjure up
