A Little Eye Opener

Good evening everyone!
WOW.  It has been a hot minute since I wrote on here!  Between my travels to Israel (which I will be sure to write about in a future post-stay tuned) and catching some sort of flu the week I got home, I had a difficult time getting around to the computer to write.  But praise the Lord I'm back on track!

Sooo, I'm going to be real with you guys.  I had that spiritual high my entire time spent in Israel.  I had my nose dug into the Word everyday and I just felt God revealing so much to me.  However, the second day I got back, I felt this heavy weight on my shoulders.  I felt a lack of intimacy with our Lord.  The conviction was real, guys.

I don't find it necessary to type the entire ordeal on here, but what I will say is that although beating around the bush may seem harmless, it is still not okay.  Not to your loved ones, to yourself, and definitely not in the eyes of our God.

God really opened my eyes this week.  He showed me that beating around the bush to avoid a potential hardship or conflict is wrong.  In essence, it is as bad as a lie.  In fact, it may as well be a lie.  And we all know a lie is a lie.  Beating around the bush, "white lies", etc.

Lying or "beating around the bush" may feel okay in the moment because it seems easier as opposed to being upfront and dealing with any form of negativity coming back at you.  But an honest heart is just such an honorable trait to have.

Listen, I understand telling the truth can be hard sometimes; given certain situation you may be faced with.  However, it is in those uncomfortable times where we can really demonstrate our faith in our Lord and continue to lean on Him and trust that He will get us through that tough time!

"The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy" Proverbs 12:22 [NIV]

Notice how this Proverb states how lying is pretty much a disgrace in God's eyes.  I mean... after all it is a sin.  But it goes on to say how the Lord delights in His people who are trustworthy; people who are honest!  He loves honesty and He loves a pure heart.  That is something to keep in mind next time you are faced with a questionable situation.
Do you want to take the easy road?  Or do you trust in our Lord Jesus Christ to hold our hands and walk down the narrow road despite the hardships that may come along? (cough- check out Matthew chapter 7-cough)

God never said we won't be faced with uncomfortable situations.  In fact, He pretty much promised they will be there.  It's inevitable.  It's scary if we don't have Jesus.  We are weaklings without him.  But with Him, we can get through it through His daily gift of His heavenly grace!  His grace IS enough!
In 2 Corinthians chapter 12, Paul is talking to the Corinthians about what God said to Him through this vision.  God's words; "MY grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
I love this... and I will explain why momentarily.

A Missed Opportunity

If you lie, it is only a matter of time before the truth comes out.  If you get caught in the midst of a lie before you gained the courage to speak the truth, then that became a huge missed opportunity.  As a Christian, honesty along with many other things are important because we are to be a reflection of who Christ is to those who may not know Him yet.  When you are caught in a lie, you are taking a big step back with that.
Beating around the bush here and there may seem harmless and even make our lives feel a bit simpler, but it isn't honoring God the way we need to honor God.  The devil makes things like this appear to do no harm, but believe me when I say it will come right back around and it will hurt.

Lying is a weakness.  I think we all can agree on that.  But that is good!  God's grace is made perfect THROUGH our weaknesses!  His strength becomes ours when we yield to Him in the midst of our weaknesses!  He said it!  The best part about this is this can appeal to any struggle you may be facing.

I love how Paul is an awesome example as he explains how he is comfortable in his weakness.

"...therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9  [NIV]

God opened my eyes a lot more this week.  He showed me that instead of pretending to be strong in a battle, that I should stop, lean on Him, and be still.  To be comfortable in my weakness because that is when His strength and glory will shine through me.  Let's be real, I make mistakes all the time, and I'm sure you do too...but God is amazing and can take any mess and make it into a work of divine art!!  Just wait and see!

Interpreting True Joy

Joy is our inheritance... What does that mean? Biblical joy is often misunderstood to be strictly a feeling; while there is no doubt that living for Jesus has plenty of feel-good times, believers are guaranteed just as many hard times.  Maintaining a hopeful outlook despite the situation is where authentic joy from Christ is met.   Joy is our reminder that God cares for us even in seemingly small events.  I believe our sincere pursuit of His good plan for us in those miniscule moments is where His authentic joy is met.  Jeremiah 29:13 reads, "you will seek me and you will find me when you seek me with all your heart."   While we can't control precisely how each day is going to turn out, we have the power to choose how we ought to perceive certain things. --- “We know we can either look at the glass half full or the glass half empty… but how about recognizing that the glass is full of water or it's full of air; regardless it's full of something!” - Un...

It's okay to be scared

My heart stings more and more each time my husband receives a call to go to another Covid-19 cleaning job.  We live in one of the higher risk areas and that worry of him contracting something and bringing it home is a daily dose of anxiety within itself.  Like for many other people, this has become our new reality and for myself, has me exercising the authenticity of my faith in Jesus more than ever. All of our situations are different right now; some of you are employed but are still required to go out and risk contracting the virus while some of you are unemployed but are safe at home.  Some of you are blessed to work from home but have loved ones that are at high risk across the country.  Some of you suffer from a mental illness that makes this situation heavier on your mental health while others have physical ailments that puts you at risk even more. We're living in a really dark time right now and it's scary.  Although we can find a list of positives fr...

To the Person Having a Hard Time Moving Forward

Just like what the title states; that was me for the longest time.  I messed up countless times.  Repeatedly.  Over and over and over.  Heck, I still mess up like it is my job.  Being that person who seemed to make mistakes left and right, I found it very difficult to move forward with my life.  I had a difficult time trying to forgive myself.  Yeah, yeah I know the "make mistakes, learn from them, build your character" saying.  But to be frank, that didn't minister to me that well.  I mean, I suppose it did but that was only temporary.  Every time I tried to move forward, something would happen that reminded me of the past and I felt that fresh sense of shame as if it happened that day.  Every time I felt like I took a step forward, I was really taking a huge step back.  For my entire life, I have been going back and forth with no real sense of direction.          I thank God for Jesus. ...
